George Gunn and Kevin Williamson will be reading their work tomorrow (Thursday) at the Writers' Retreat in Charlotte Square Gardens as part of the prestigious event. Gunn, who comes from Dunnet and is based in Thurso, will be reading from his latest collection of poetry The Atlantic Forest, which was published by Two Ravens Press in April. Gunn, the artistic director of the Grey Coast Theatre Company, has had several collections of poetry published and has written a number of plays, the latest of which, The Houses of the Sea, was performed at the Drama na h-Alba theatre festival in Inverness. He draws inspiration from the landscape and identity of his native Caithness. Williamson, who grew up in Thurso but now lives in Edinburgh, was founder of Rebel Inc Publishing House which launched the career of Irvine Welsh and others. Williamson has been an energetic anti-establishment presence in Scottish contemporary writing. In A Room Darkened is his first collection of poetry. A total of 600 writers will be taking part in 800 events and among some of the well-known names appearing will be former cabinet minister and Labour MP Tony Benn, kidnapped journalist Alan Johnston, Ian Rankin, and A.C. Grayling. Related articles: |
