LYTH Arts Centre will be hosting a series of weekend textile workshops during August in conjunction with the current exhibition, Textile Work by Eight Scottish Makers.

Three of the artists featured are travelling to Lyth to share their skills. Remember how grandma had a lovely thick rug made from scraps of old clothes? On August 2, Flora McPherson's rag-rug workshop will see participants learn the technique using discarded fabric to make bags, cushions and wall-hangings.

On August 9, Ruth Black's workshop in felt-making and embroidery will show participants how to make a cushion or wall-hanging with a Celtic theme. Ruth's skills as a fabric artist and a tutor are well known in the Inverness area where she is based – examples of her work and her catalogue can be found on www.annamacneil.co.uk

On August 24, Ingrid Tait who runs her own company, Tait&Style, will be travelling over from Orkney. She will lead the final workshop entitled "Flowers into Felt" and will teach the appliqué technique so that each participant goes home with their own beautiful scarf.

As places for these workshops are limited, those interested are advised to book early via www.lytharts.org.uk or 01955 641270.
