SIR - Deaf Care in Thurso started sometime in 1980 thanks to the dedication and determination of one person, Helena "Ena" McCallum. She had been told that she was going profoundly deaf but found that the only deaf care service available in Caithness was supply of hearing-aid batteries that could be ordered from the local hospital's outpatient department.
