Shirley Yvonne Bain graduated from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, with a BA (Hons) (2.1) in Social Work. Shirley, who lives in Halkirk with husband Martin and children Jordan and Keira, is employed by the Highland Council as a children and families social worker based in Thurso. She is the daughter of Margaret and Tom Jackson, Thurso.

Gary will now pursue an MRes programme in Social Research Methods at the University of Aberdeen in September.

Alan Burgon, eldest son of Betty and David Burgon, Aviemore, graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with a BA in Acting. Alan, formerly of High Ormlie, Thurso, is the nephew of Joan and Trevor Chadwick and Malcolm Sinclair. He is currently working with the Dundee Rep Ensemble and playing the role of the Beast in the Christmas production of Beauty and the Beast.

Deirdre Aitken, of Moray View Avenue, Staxigoe, has graduated with an HNC in Interpreting Studies – BSL (British Sign Language)/English from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Mrs Aitken is the first person from Caithness to complete the course and can now register as a trainee interpreter with the Scottish Association of Sign Language Interpreters. She is the co-ordinator with Caithness Deaf Care.

Chris has won the Amazon Award for the best honours project, he was a finalist for the Scotland I.S. Award and has been nominated for the National S.E.T Award. Chris is a former pupil of Keiss Primary School and Wick High.

Alexandra, a former pupil of Thurso High School, was awarded the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Branch Prize for the best overall performance in the MPharm degree course and the Anthony Macmillan Memorial Medal for the best student in the final year of the MPharm degree course.
