Caithness in good shape to take on league leaders

Could you help out with the junior teams?CAITHNESS are chasing an audacious treble when they travel to take on RBS Caley 1 leaders Aberdeenshire tomorrow.

Saturday's hard-fought 13-8 away win over Highland, coming on the heels of an impressive home victory versus Orkney, has injected much-needed new life into the Greens' faltering campaign.

The challenge of downing the colours of a pumped-up Shire side protecting an unbeaten home record is one relished by coach Colin Sangster.

He said: "The boys are going well and I don't see a team in the league that would bother me unduly the way we are playing."

While accepting Shire have been going well, he said: "I wouldn't say I'm quaking in my boots at the prospect of playing them. We're in good shape to take them on; we'll be going down with a reasonably strong squad who have been building up a bit of continuity and who have two good wins under their belt."

Shire will be bidding to complete a double over the Greens whom they beat 21-11 at Millbank in October.

Caithness will miss livewire scrum half Graham Fryer, who has returned offshore.

He is likely to be replaced by fellow oil worker Norman Foubister while another, Roddy Gray, will also rejoin the squad.

Utility back William Mill is unavailable and a knee injury continues to sideline prop Ranald Pottinger.

But skipper Sinclair Dunnett is set to return after recovering from a hamstring pull.

Aberdeenshire and Hillfoots moved clear at the top after they both chalked up victories in the other two matches played on Saturday.

Shire's bonus-point 36-0 win in Glenrothes allowed them to extend their lead over the Tillicoultry men to eight points.

Hillfoots, meanwhile, scored a gutsy 10-0 victory over Mackie Academy FPs at Stonehaven.
