A LONG-time stalwart of Girlguiding in Caithness has been presented with a prestigious award.
Lindsay Kay received the Scottish Chief Commissioner’s Award from Margaret, Viscountess Thurso, the county president, in recognition of her outstanding and extraordinary service to the group.
Lindsay has had a long association with Girlguiding Caithness – most recently serving as county commissioner – and she has also held posts at a Scottish level.
“I’ve been involved with Guiding since I was 12 years old,” said Lindsay. “We are all volunteers and we create wonderful experiences and opportunities for the young members as well as the adults. Being part of this team appeals to me.”
The letters supporting Lindsay’s nomination for the award showed what a valued member of the local and national Girlguiding team she is as well as a valued work colleague, friend and confidante.
“It was presented for outstanding contribution to Caithness,” explained Lindsay, who is currently a Brownie leader with 5th Thurso Brownies.
“During my five-year appointment as county commissioner we had our centenary in 2010 – it involved planning and organising large-scale events. It was an opportunity to create ‘mountain top moments’ in our centenary year.” The 42-year-old, who works as a manager at Dounreay, said: “It was quite a surprise as it was completely unknown to me. I just enjoy being part of Guiding in the county.”
