A WOMAN who admitted she had falsely claimed she had been raped appeared at Wick Sheriff Court today (Tuesday).
Jane Steven (41), of Lindsay Court, Wick, pleaded guilty to wasting police time and making someone liable to suspicion and accusation of rape.
She made up the claim to her son after returning from a night out on July 21 last year.
The son contacted the police who investigated the case before Steven confessed when she voluntarily visited Wick Police Station on November 2.
The case cost Northern Constabulary a five-figure sum of money and investigative measures involved door-to-door enquiries and CCTV footage examination.
Sheriff Andrew Berry deferred sentence until Tuesday, April 24, for the preparation of a social inquiry report.
