A PAIR of darts superstars are heading to Wick tonight (Friday) to take on local players.
On the oche at the Assembly Rooms will be five times world champion Raymond van Barneveld and the second most successful player in Professional Darts Corporation history James Wade.
A mix of 16 men and women will play off against the two legends in front of a sell-out crowd from 7.45pm tonight.
Van Barneveld is the most successful Dutchman to pick up a set of darts. Earlier this year, there was a major upset in the PDC World Championship when he lost in the first round to James Richardson who was ranked 85th.
Van Barneveld later redeemed himself by taking his first European title, defeating Dave Chisnall in the European tour event in Düsseldorf.
Meanwhile, Englishman James “The Machine” Wade has his own fearsome reputation.
He was previously known as 009 in tribute to his nine dart finishes.
Wade made an impressive attack on the early rounds of this year’s fifth World Matchplay, eventually taking on Phil “The Power” Taylor.
After trailing by four legs, Wade fought back and nearly levelled the score but Taylor powered through to take the top spot.
The local competitors were picked by way of a tournament and also to represent local teams from the Wick and District Darts League.
