Tributes paid to man who made Reiss beach safe

A WORLD War II bomb-disposal expert has died in his long-time adopted home town of Wick aged 100.

Ernest Shand, who passed away in his sleep last week, is best remembered for his service in the wake of the war in leading the effort to clear more than 3000 mines at Reiss beach.
