TWO of the country’s top chefs will be heading to Caithness next year to take part in the county’s most renowned food event.

Philip Howard and Robert Weston will be headlining the weekend-long 11th Food of Love at Ackergill Tower in February.

Described as the ultimate culinary short break, the event will see Howard and Weston design all the menus using locally sourced produce including the best beef, pork and lamb the county has to offer as well as an abundance of local seafood and shellfish.

Guests will enjoy three menus prepared by the pair, together with Ackergill Tower’s head chef, Kevin Dalgleish, as well as cookery demonstrations, oyster tasting and cheese sampling.

The event has been held in high regard with food connoisseurs in the past and has attracted chefs such as Nick Nairn, Paul Rankin and Richard Corrigan.

New tower manager Jeanette Montgomery said Food of Love has become an anticipated event on the hotel’s calendar, showcasing the quality of produce which is available in Caithness.

“We are really pleased to have attracted chefs of the calibre of Robert Weston and Philip Howard to take part in Food of Love.

“In the past, the event has drawn visitors from across the country to the tower to taste the fabulous local produce which is on offer and we are sure that this year’s event will be as successful as in previous years.”

Weston has been head chef at The Square Restaurant in Mayfair, London, for the past 12 years and has worked in a number of impressive establishments alongside some well-known chefs including Marco Pierre White at the Mandarin Oriental and Michel Roux Jr at the three-Michelin-star Le Gavroche.

Howard will be in his 18th year as chef patron of The Square where he has earned a reputation in the industry as the chef’s chef.

He is rarely away from his kitchen and has won numerous accolades including two Michelin stars and more recently the BMW Square Meal Restaurant of the Year 2007.

The Food of Love event takes place from Friday, February 24, to Monday, February 27.
