TALKS to reopen the cinema in Thurso are said to be progressing positively.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise has revealed that discussions with businessman Rob Arthur are moving well and it is confident a deal can be agreed within the next few weeks.

The West Lothian entrepreneur, who has experience of running over 30 cinemas across the world, met over 200 people at the Pentland Hotel in Thurso last month to discuss his plans for the former All Star Factory in Ormlie Road.

A spokeswoman for HIE said: "Talks are ongoing but there have been very positive discussions and we hope that a decision can be made in the very near future."

Mr Arthur stated at the meeting that his aim is to open the cinema by Friday, August 3, with the first film to be shown at the premises being the Disney Pixar animated adventure, Brave.

He also announced plans to convert the existing bowling alley to increase the number of screens from two to five should the deal go through.
