STAGECOACH has announced six new buses will be deployed on Caithness routes this summer.

At a recent meeting of Caithness Transport Forum the bus operator’s Highland managing director, Steve Walker, told members the service between Caithness and Inverness is now more attractive to passengers, citing a passenger figure increase of 13.7 per cent in the past year.

Caithness Transport Forum and Caithness Bus Users’ Group chairman John Green welcomed the announcement.

“Public transport connections around our county, and between Caithness and Inverness, are vital for local people,” he said.

“Stagecoach appears to have listened to local feedback on their routes and their service provision, and it is very encouraging to see new vehicles dedicated to Caithness routes being introduced.”

The six new coaches are scheduled to begin servicing Caithness at the end of the month and a launch will take place to formally announce their arrival.
