THE re-opening of Thurso cinema has taken one step closer to reality as the firm behind the proposal have began the process of hiring staff.

The Thurso Cinema Limited is looking to create up to eight full-time jobs at the former All Star Factory complex on Ormlie Road.

Cinema projection consultant Bill Shearer, who with businessman Rob Arthur is involved in the project, confirmed that the process of looking for staff has begun.

Despite the take-over not yet being completed, Mr Shearer said that the deal was 99 per cent done and said that they were already looking at opening the cinema earlier than its estimated date.

“We had aimed to re-open the cinema by Friday, August, 3, but discussions are progressing quickly and we are now looking at opening the facility as early as Tuesday, July 24,” he said.

Over 200 people attended the Pentland Hotel in Thurso last month when Mr Arthur unveiled his plans for the development, which involved converting the existing bowling alley to create three extra screens.
