Gary Reid said that he couldn’t hold back his emotions when he heard that Reids of Caithness had been nominated in the final five of the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards.

Now run by Gary and his brother, Graeme, the company has enjoyed unprecedented success over the past five decades seeing it expand and gain lucrative contracts, and develop demand for its products from overseas.

“We’ve made the final five out of 163 bakery companies across Scotland, which is a huge achievement in itself. It is the first time that the awards have ever been held and to hear the news that we were short-listed for the best bakery in the country actually reduced me to tears.

“It’s hard to know what will happen from here, but to get as far as we have really is something else.

“It gives every member of staff who works with us credibility for what we do and it shows the driving passion that exists under our roof.”
