RAF air crash victim laid to rest

THE funeral of an RAF airman who was killed in a mid-air collision off the Caithness coast took place on Friday.

Flight Lieutentant Adam Sanders (27) originally from Lancashire was one of three crew who were killed when two Tornado GR4 Jets, crashed in the Moray Firth, 25km east of Wick on Tuesday, July 3.

His service is due to take place at noon at St Aidan’s Church at RAF Lossiemouth where he was based.

Three of the four airmen involved in the accident died with the remains of Flt Lt Sanders and Squadron Leader Samuel Bailey (36) were recovered from the crash scene.

Flt Lt Hywel Poole was airlifted to Raigmore hospital in Inverness after the crash, but later died.

The only survivor from the training flight accident is still being treated in hospital.
