A power cut affected both Wick and Thurso this afternoon.
The mains electricity supply went down across Caithness after a fault was detected on the Scottish Hydro Electric power distribution network at around 4.50pm.
A spokeswoman said a “temporary interruption” was detected on the super high voltage transmission network in the area, causing the outage.
“We don’t know exactly what caused the fault,” she said.
“But our network was automatically able to rectify the situation and restore all supplies within about 30 seconds.”
Exactly a week ago a suspected lightning strike cut power to over 400 homes in Thurso.
A Scottish Hydro Electric power distribution spokeswoman told www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk that damage to an overhead line caused 476 houses in the Mount Pleasant area to be cut off from the National Grid at around 12.52pm last Tuesday.
Of the affected houses, 432 had power restored within 33 minutes, with the remaining 44 getting electricity back by 5.52pm.
