Pennyland performance goes down a storm

THURSO’s Pennyland primary school returned with a clutch of awards following their participation in this year’s Rock Challenge competition in Inverness. Run by Northern Constabulary, the youngsters are invited to use music, dance and drama to promote healthy lifestyles.

The 17 Pennyland pupils from the two senior classes prepared well and their performance went down well with the audience at the event in Eden Court Theatre.

Their performance, around the theme ‘Life is like a rainbow’, picked up six awards, in entertainment; hair and make-up design; performance skill; lighting design; costume design; and choreography.

Principal teacher Fiona MacDonald, who co-ordinated the entry, said: "We are eager to take part in next year’s event and are hoping to include more members of the local community who could assist with costumes and set design.

"We were very impressed by how well organised the event and how much the pupils gained from being involved and getting to showcase their talents.
