A THURSO man was “on cloud nine” after helping an injured otter which had been in a fight but was “gutted” when it later died.

Ryan Buttress and Paul Lafferty was out for a walk by the town’s Victoria Walk when he spotted the otter and was concerned about its health.

He bought some fish for the otter from the Pavillion Restaurant who also fed the otter squid, salmon, mussels and scallop before swimming off into the river.

But Mr Buttress received news the following day the otter had died.

Read their heartbreaking story in today's John O'Groat Journal.
