North sea earthquake shakes homes 180km away in Caithness

AN earthquake which struck 180 kilometres off the east coast of Caithness last Friday was strong enough to be felt by people in Wick and Thurso.

The 4.7 magnitude tremor is one of the largest recorded by the British Geological Survey in several years and was also experienced by people in Shetland and Orkney.

People across Caithness reported feeling the earthquake last week.
