Nominations open for Highland Council elections

NOMINATIONS for the 2017 Highland Council election is now open.  

Applications for candidates wishing to stand in the local Government elections is taking place on Thursday May 4.

Eight council positions are available in Caithness with four places available each in two newly created wards in Thurso and North-West Caithness and Wick and East Caithness.

The number of councillors from Caithness has reduced from 10 to eight with Landward Caithness being split in two and merged with Thurso and Wick to create the new wards.

A total of 74 Councillors will be appointed to represent Highland Council

So far confirmed to be standing at May's elections are as follows.

Thurso and North-West Caithness

Struan Mackie

Sandra Owsnett

Matthew Reiss

Roger Saxon

Wick and East Caithness

Bill Fernie

Neil MacDonald

Willie Mackay

Catherine Patterson

Andrew Sinclair

Nicola Sinclair

Confirmed to be standing but not declared in which ward.

Gillian Coghill

Landward councillor David Bremner and Thurso councillor John Rosie have announced they will not be seeking re-election.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 29 at 4pm.
