ONE lucky woman attending a ball in Wick will be wearing a specially created, one-off tiara.

Local jewellery designer Lynsey Reid, from Lark & Lily Designs, is lending the Keiss Family Community Project a helping hand by making the headdress and donating it to the cause.

The project’s Tartan & Tiara Ball is being held in the Norseman Hotel on October 28 and one lucky ticket holder will win the tiara and be able to collect it beforehand so she can wear it on the night.

To be in with a chance of winning this unique item to wear to the ball, you have to buy a numbered ball ticket, priced at £22.50, from the Norseman Hotel by Monday, October 24.

The winning number will be drawn on the Wednesday, October 26, and the tiara will be available to collect in order to wear on the Friday.

The ball begins with drinks at 7.30pm with a three-course dinner at 8pm which has been sponsored by the hotel’s local suppliers.

Caithness band Jude will provide the music for the after-dinner dancing.

Dinner for two at Ackergill Tower and a weekend stay in the Keiss Harbour House are being offered as prizes for a special draw on the night.

The Keiss Family Community Project is one of three schemes being supported by North of Scotland Newspapers’ Charity of the Year initiative. The other two are the Thrumster Park Regeneration Fund and Thurso Youth FC.

Meanwhile, a bag-pack in the Co-op store in Wick has raised £361.74 for the NOSN Charity of the Year.

Editor Karen Steven, one of the bag-packers on the day, said: “People in Caithness have a reputation for generosity and they lived up to that on Saturday.

“We were constantly surprised by people’s kindness – by the way some declined our help but still gave money, and the many people who had nothing but a credit or debit card with them who obtained cash back in order to give us a donation.

“I know that the three groups we are supporting very much appreciate any help they get from the public.

“Thank-you to the Co-op’s customers for all their donations and its staff for making us so welcome.”
