A KIND-hearted volunteer in Thurso donated a prize he won so one of the people he works with could enjoy a nice day out.
Andy Quinn, who is a support worker with Key Housing, took second prize in the North of Scotland Newspapers Charity of the Year Lucky Squares competition.
His prize was a tour and afternoon tea for two at the Castle of Mey.
But instead of claiming the prize for himself, he kindly donated it to Marjorie Thompson who is a service user at Key Housing.
Along with support worker Tracey Swanson, she enjoyed a visit to the late Queen Mother’s holiday home last month.
Explaining why he donated the prize, Mr Quinn (54) said that he wanted to give Marjorie a treat.
“I was delighted to hear I had won the prize,” he said. “But I thought that Marjorie would appreciate the visit to the Castle of Mey more than I would.
“I haven’t spoken to them since they have visited, but I hope that the pair really enjoyed themselves.”
North of Scotland Newspapers raised £200 after selling all 200 lucky squares at £1 each.
The money will go towards the charity of the year initiative supporting Thrumster Park Regeneration Fund, Keiss Family Community Project and Thurso Youth FC.
The other winners were Mrs McGregor, of Durness Street, Thurso, who took the top prize of a voucher for the award-winning Captain’s Galley restaurant in Scrabster, and Corrine Mackay, of Bridge Street, Halkirk, who won a bottle of Old Pulteney.
