COUNCILLORS will today rule on the status of a hotly contested strip of land on Thurso's seafront.
The ground between the town's caravan park and the Weigh Inn has been preserved as a recreation area to retain the panoramic view out to Thurso Bay and the Orkneys.
The site is the long-time plans of local businessman Raymond Taylor to build a £7 million luxury hotel and executive lodges, which he says would create more than 50 jobs and boost local tourism.
He says the scheme will be “dead and buried” if he fails to win the day at today's meeting of the council's Caithness area committee.
The issue is being discussed as part of the firming up of the new local planning blueprint which will guide development in the far north over the next decade.
