FOUR members of Thurso Camera Club have since last summer had the standard and quality of their work recognised by three major photographic institutions.
Donald Sandison, James Gunn, Julie Fraser and Duncan McLachlan submitted their images for scrutiny by experienced and highly qualified photographers. They join club chairman Colin Gregory in holding a licentiateship.
Donald has gained his licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS).
James now holds his licentiateship of the Society of International Sport and Leisure Photographers (SISLP).
He works at Dounreay and started a part-time photography business in 2008. His work is a regular feature on the sports pages of the Caithness Courier and the John O'Groat Journal.
Both Julie and Duncan have recently been granted their licentiateship of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (LSWPP) accreditation.
Julie only took up photography a few years ago and, with a lot of hard work and determination, took the plunge and turned full-time last year.
Duncan is an employee of Johnson Controls Ltd based at Dounreay where he works as a graphic designer. He also runs his own photography business, Studiograff.
In the recent Highland Challenge photographic competition consisting of entries from eight camera clubs throughout the Highlands, from Shetland to Nairn, Duncan's submission featuring a portrait of a black Labrador gained the highest rating in the digital image class. The club gained third place overall with 10 images submitted by five members.
Thurso Camera Club meets for the winter season on the first and third Mondays of the month from September through to April in the art rooms of Miller Academy Primary School (access via the Princes Street entrance). Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
